View of Granville Street's goods tunnel mouth showing the lights on either side and the point work within the tunnel itself circa 1957. Immediately behind the parapet wall seen above was the footpath known as Holliday Passage. Behind the footpath was the terminal 'Worcester Wharf' complete with the buildings and wharf for handling goods traffic arriving by barge on the Worcester and Birmingham Canal. The latter being owned by the Sharpness New Docks and Gloucester & Birmingham Navigation Company. When the branch had become the responsibility of Way and Works Committee of the Midland Railway in the summer of 1890, one of their firs acts was to approve a request by the Traffic Committee for two electric bells, to assist drivers whilst shunting inside the tunnel at a cost of £32.
