Close up showing the site of the original Worcester Wharf Goods Station adjacent to Holliday Street

Close up of image 'mrcgy928' showing the site of the original Worcester Wharf Goods Station adjacent to Holliday Street. Initially opened for traffic on 1st July 1887 the facilities were rather limited being restricted to four sidings band two small goods sheds. Enlargement of the site began almost immediately with the construction of the 'metal shed' on the up side of the depot in November 1887. The shed was required to store various castings, machined parts, etc, that needed to be kept under cover and secure whilst waiting transit. In the centre of the image is a loading gauge suspended between are two white upright posts. According to Bob Essery, 'this was not an uncommon arrangement in the yards at large goods stations'.
