LMS Route: Hampton in Arden to Whitacre

Coleshill (Maxstoke) Station: mrcm175a

Close up showing the stationmaster posed on Coleshill station platform which has been raised to the height of the window sill

Close up of image 'mrcm175' showing the station master posed on Coleshill station platform which has been raised to the height of the window sill. Proof that the original height of the platform was much lower can be ascertained by both the change of colour in the brickwork to the platform face and the fact the station house's window sill is only just above the surface of the platform. In this view there are no fire buckets fitted to the wall as seen in image 'mrcm388' whilst there appears to be 'mail bags' or similar on the platform. Image 'mrcm389' shows the far end of the station from the opposite end indicating that the end structure is probably a parcel/goods office. The gates are closed to road traffic indicating that the station master is waiting for the train to Hampton. The station's name 'Coleshill' can just be seen above the 'Eppss Cocoa' advert. The line running under the two track arched bridge in the background helps to illustrate the fact that when the line was singled it was realigned rather than being one of the two original tracks. In this view the line by the station starts on the up side of the original double track bed and it passes under the bridge it is on the down side of the original formation.
