An unidentified ex-LMS 3F 0-6-0 'Large Goods' locomotive passes the second Duddeston Road Junction signal box on 5th July 1953. Bob Essery recounted that when he was fireman at Saltley Shed and serving in the Bank Pilot link (the link responsible for banking trains from Saltley and Duddeston to Camp Hill) the first thing they needed to do was to find out where their locomotive was. This was because the locomotives allocated to Bank Pilot duties were effectively on duty continuously from Monday morning to the following Sunday. They only returned on shed to top up their coal and water and for a quick servicing. To find out where the locomotive was located along the route (anywhere between Washwood Heath to Kings Heath) the fireman would need to contact the regulator who had an office at the top of the stairs.
