Ex-LMS 2-6-0 'Hughes Crab' No 42763 is working hard as it climbs past Hazelwell goods yard on 20th July 1957. At the time of this photograph the locomotive was allocated to 17B Burton shed where it would remain for nearly five years before being transferred to 16A Nottingham shed in January 1962. On the left is the down refuge siding which could accommodate 44 wagons, the same as the up refuge siding which was sited on the other side of station, whilst on the right is Hazelwell station's goods yard, still active over twenty plus years after the passenger facilities closed. The goods yard accommodated 66 wagons on six sidings. Built as LMS No 13063 by Crewe works in July 1927, it was renumbered by the LMS as No 2763 in April 1935 and again, as No 42763 by British Railways in February 1949 which it carried until June 1964 when it was withdrawn from 16A Nottingham shed to be scrapped.
