Kings Heath station staff pose for the camera outside the
Station Master's office on the down platform circa 1912. The Station Master,
John Brayne, is sitting in the centre of the photograph and he occupied this
post from 1904 to 1930. The seniority of the staff is primarily demonstrated by
both their position in the photograph, the senior members of staff are all
seated, whilst the porters are standing - the exception being the gentlemen in
the centre at the back. Perhaps his clearly disinterested look indicates that
he objected to being so positioned. The uniform is the other method of
identifying the seniority of staff, working staff wearing long sleeved waist
coats or thick jackets and wide peaked caps whilst management wore a uniform of
better cloth and hats that were more pill-boxed shaped.
