A mid-1960s three-quarters view of Kings Heath station's third signal box which was erected in 1906. Barrie Geen's suggests that the first signal box at the station was erected prior to 1st November 1875, most likely a Midland Railway Type 1 signal box, whilst a second signal box was opened on 27th August 1882. This in turn was replaced when the above signal box was opened on 30th April 1906. This signal box was a Midland Railway Type 3a design, 20 feet long by 12 feet wide with hipped roof. When the line became the responsibility of the Western Division of British Railways, the frame was replaced by a 30 lever GWR pattern although the MR 3 lever ground frame controlling the entry to the goods yard remained.
