View of Kings Norton station's timber goods shed and the yard's emergency locomotive coal stack. Most of the locomotives allocated to work out of Kings Norton, either on goods services or empty passenger stock workings to New Street, would have been allocated to Saltley located on the other side of Birmingham New Street. They would commence their working day being fully coaled by their home shed but should they need to to top up their tenders would be able to do so without having to travel light engine mid session. The effort of coaling an engine by hand meant that this option was only ever undertaken at times of emergency.
