View of Lawley Street's Goods and Grain Warehouse taken from the London & Birmingham railway with Landor Street in the foreground on 11th July 1910. The main goods warehouse and grain store was built in 1895 and despite the pollution that prevailed still looks very clean some fifteen years later. Immediately the other side of the wall can be seen a number of open wagons with one or two covered with tarpaulins. Open wagons were used to convey goods when box vans were not available and in order to protect the load from both inclement weather and embers ejected from the locomotive tarpaulins were used. Other items of note is the loading gauge in the bottom right of the photograph and the goods behind the open wagons which are sitting on a raised deck (platform).
