Lawley Street Goods Depot: mrls425a

Close up Lawley Street Goods depot showing some of the coal merchants' facilities including further reception sidings for handling coal traffic

Close up of image 'mrls425' showing Lawley Street Goods depot and some of the coal merchants' facilities including further reception sidings for handling coal traffic. Immediately behind the signal can be seen a white timber hut and 'banner', the trademark of coal merchants at goods yard throughout the country. Most of the open wagons in view are MR owned although the one Private Owner clearly seen is 'Exhall' owned by a colliery situated on the outskirts of Coventry. Also of interest is how close residential housing would be found near to goods depot such as seen above. In between the yard and the housing is the River Rea which was culverted under the L&B lines and Lawley Street Goods & Grain Warehouse but surfaced again adjacent to Northumberland Street to run alongside for some distance.
