Ex-LMS 3P 2-6-2T No 171 is seen in March 1948 inside the shed shortly after being transferred from Kentish Town shed. After staying at Saltley shed for nearly four years, No 171 was reallocated to Abergavenny shed in January 1952. This Stanier locomotive class was the least successful of all of his designs but despite this No 171, which had been built at Derby works in December 1937, was to remain in service until May 1961 when it was withdrawn from 82G Templecombe shed during week ending 20th July 1961.
