Wilnecote Station: mrw1124b

Close up of image'mrw1124' showing a detailed view of the smaller down platform buildings at Wilnecote station circa 1960. The LMS station signs have gone, now replaced by British Railways enamel signs in LMR maroon with white lettering. In the right foreground is the gentlemens' lavatory, probably fitted with a single urinal, open to the sky, and a WC cubicle lit by the rooflight seen in the photograph. The crow stepped parapet makes this quite a characterful small building. The gas pipe up the building's wall is also prominent, serving lamp both outside on the platform and inside the building. The soil vent pipe has been attached rather prominently to the front corner of the building. Either side of this building on the bank behind the platform there are rustic trellises with plants growing around them, a sign that even at this late date in the station's life, the staff were attempting to make the station look attractive. Further along the platform, are a small brick store and the ladies' waiting room including WC facilities and a fireplace or stove. The bike shed at the top of the bank, and the street level booking office are also shown to good advantage in this view.
