View of Washwood Heath Sidings No 1 Signal Box which was located on the up line and the opposite side of the former LNWR Aston to Stechford bridge on 8th April 1969. This signal box controlled a critical block (section) of track at the West end of Washwood Heath Sidings, and was therefore the most important of the seven signal boxes that were found at Washwood Heath sidings. Under its control were the seven lines running West towards Birmingham, the access to the up and down sidings including the switchovers between the lines and the two short sidings for the banking locomotives used to push the heavy goods trains up towards the city centre. To the right of the signal box can be seen the carriage shed with the Up Lawley street line (which became the Up goods line) in between.
