Another view from the Water Orton end of the station looking towards Derby with the up platform on the right on 8th March 1956. Despite it being eight years since the railways came into public ownership under the umbrella of British Railways the station is still very much as it was in its Midland and LMS days with no British Railways corporate livery in evidence. The round disc between the two sets of tracks (the six foot) is a disc signal used to repeat the position of the main signal arm on the gantry seen adjacent to the passenger footbridge. This was an essential aid for drivers when visibility was poor such as on foggy days or at night during inclement weather.
