A view of Whitacre's 1864 buildings which replaced the 1842 B&DJR structure seen one month prior to closure in March 1968

A view of Whitacre's second station which replaced the 1842 B&DJR structure, seen on 29th February 1968, one month prior to its closure in March. The original station, which had been built 150 yards further to the north, had been opened on 10th February 1842 and allegedly closed on 1st November 1864 when the new one was opened by the Midland Railway. However Roger Waring in his book The Stonebridge Railway maintains that for a short time both were open at the same time with trains calling at both stations. The Hampton service used the platform nearest the camera whilst the opposite platform was used for down trains heading to Birmingham.
