Ex-LMS 8P 2-8-0 No 48381 is at the head of a Class H freight from Toton to Washwood Heath on 2nd October 1959. At the time the photograph was taken the locomotive was allocated to Wellingborough shed. The cooling towers in the background belong to Hams Hall power station, there were three in total, 'A', 'B' and 'C', which were later made redundant by the introduction of gas fueled power stations and demolished to be replaced by a rail served distribution depot and BMW engine factory. Built by Horwich works in December 1944 No 48381 remained in service until November 1967 when it was withdrawn from 9H Patricroft shed.
