The telegraph pole adjacent to the signal box is of different pattern to the others seen in the photograph because it accommodated linking the lines into the signal box. Larger telegraph poles with their many arms, eight in the case above, were found alongside the main lines whilst telegraph poles with two or three arms were the norm for branch lines such as the SMJ, as can be seen in image 'smjfc18'.
