View of the LCGB's South Midlander special at the down platform with a freight service passing through the up platform. The lack of safety precautions would be intolerable to today's Health & Safety statsi yet this scene was repeated across the country without mishap for the last fifteen years of steam. Perhaps its as much due to the self-discipline of the then railway enthusiast as anything else that these scenes were tolerated.
