LMS Route: Stratford Midland Junction - The Shakespeare
Route
Stratford on Avon Station: smjsa288
A line of Hutchings & Company's Private Owned six-plank
open mineral wagons runs into the goods shed circa 1900. Arthur Jordan wrote in
his book on the SMJ, 'Hutchings & Company possessed thirty-five wagons
in ther capacity as cartage agents to the E&WJR, the SMJ and their
successors, the LMS. The lettering on the nearest vehicle, No 618, reads:
'Hutchings & Co., Coal & Ironstone Contractors, Stratford-on-Avon'.
On the left two horse-drawn drays are visible by the goods shed whilst above
the wagons the jib of the fixed position hand-operated crane rated at about
five to six tons can be seen. Within the shed a one ton hand-operated crane was
also available.
