LMS Route: Stratford Midland Junction - The Shakespeare Route

Stratford on Avon Station: smjsa64a

Close up of image 'smjsa64' showing the trackwork to the west of Stratford on Avon station during the early 1960s. The two lines bearing to the left form the new south curve connecting the SMJ route with the ex-GWR line just south of the racecourse station. The middle single-line track also bearing to the left is the route to Broom junction and was closed shortly after the south curve was installed. The lines curving to the right form the original north connection to the former GWR line although in the early years the GWR insisted that west-bound traffic from the SMJ was exchanged at Fenny Compton. The broken buffer stops mark the location of the carriage sidings at the station.
