Building the last Main Line Railway
Newton to the Oxford Canal: gcrcs106
View of one of the three piers being built to support the
bridge's steel girders used to span the Oxford Canal. A steel caisson has been
formed beneath the left hand derrick in order to building the foundations
required for each pier. The other timber baulks would be used to support the
steel plating that will be employed to build the girders in situ. The structure
was built by T Oliver & Son as part of Contract No.4 (Rugby to
Woodford).
