Building the last Main Line Railway
Catesby Tunnel and Viaduct: gcrcs187
Navvy hut settlement at Catesby, photographed in August
1896. This was the largest of many camps which were erected by the contractors
close to the route to house the navvies and their families. Although primitive
by modern standards, these humble dwellings represented a significant
improvement on the accommodation that previous generations of navvies had
endured.
