Ex-LNER 2-8-0 class O1/8 No 63789 is seen passing through Rugby on an up short goods train. The number of vans in the goods yard shows that the yard was still extensively used in the 1940s and 1950s. The line nearest to the camera was a refuge siding where trains, principally goods trains, could be reversed to allow others to overtake them. The white disc on the left was a ground disc signal facing the camera and used by drivers when reversing into the refuge siding. The white mark running down the locomotive's firebox was staining caused by a water leak coming from a wash out plug. Built in July 1919 by North British Locomotive Company as ROD No 1884, a member of the O4/1 class, it was later renumbered by the LNER as No 6216, when it was rebuilt by Thomson as a class O1/8, and No 3789 when renumbered in 1946. It was withdrawn in November 1962 from 16D Annesley shed.
