Building the last Main Line Railway
Great Central Bridge and Viaduct: gcrcs96
The Great Central railway viaduct at Rugby, as seen looking
south towards where it joins with GC bridge crossing the LNWR main line. Note
the contractors temporary way to the left of the viaduct. As previously
mentioned, normally this would run the length of the section of line being
built, both to remove the spoil and later to bring in materials. However the
viaduct above was, as were many of the other structures, built ahead of the
main work and only after completion did the embankment get built.
