Coventry Corporation Gas Department Wagon No 161

The Coventry gasworks operated a small fleet of wagons of which little is known. this example was photographed after overhaul by the Lincoln Wagon and Engine Co, Doncaster.. It was originally built by the Birmingham RC&WCo. in 1911. Body colour appears to be black with white unshaded letters. Empty return instructions are to the gasworks at Foleshill, indicating that it was used to transport coke outwards, traffic that it shared with the canal network.
