Bagnall 0-4-0ST No 1 is seen working hard shunting empty seven plank wagons in Coventry Gasworks' sidings whilst the main Nuneaton to Coventry line is seen in the background. Built in 1906, No 1 - Works No 1738 - was one of four locomotives supplied by the manufacturer and remained in service until February 1963 when it was cut up on site. The gasworks were built between 1902 and 1908 with some coal arriving by rail but a large amount from Griff Collieries arrived by canal. In the distance can be seen the buildings of the Coventry Bone and Fat Company which filled the air with a most unwelcome smell.
