John's full name was Arthur John Shaw and for many years he shunted coal at the Gas Works with a mate called Snowy. He worked at the Gas Works upto its closure driving the diesel locomotive which replaced the steam engine. He also worked at Courtaulds driving their locomotives, including their diesel locomotive, until his retirement.
