Harbury Cement Works: misc_hcw172

Thought to be the last steam locomotive on site, 0-6-0ST ‘Cunarder’ stands derelict at the closed Harbury Cement Works

Thought to be the last steam locomotive on site, 0-6-0ST ‘Cunarder’ stands derelict at the closed Harbury Cement Works. This locomotive was built by Hunslet Engine Company Ltd of Leeds in 1931, but was transferred to the Harbury Works sometime after 1947. In 1966, R Evans of the Warwickshire Railway Society produced a review of the remaining industrial steam locomotives in the Midlands. He identified that ‘Cunarder’ was the only steam locomotive left on the Harbury Cement Works, where it was acting as spare motive power to a diesel locomotive and was steamed once a week on Mondays.
