Wagon No 1001 was the first to be competed by the Brush Company at the Loughborough works

Wagon No 1001 was the first to be competed by the Brush Company at the Loughborough works. and bears their builders plate at the left hand side of the wagon body. The mechanism for opening the hopper doors can be seen underneath the chassis on the far side. In this form these wagons saw very little service as they were barred from the rails of the Midland Railway until being rebuilt with wooden bodies and standard brake gear. Note particularly that the handbrake lever is to the left hand side of the body, contrary to the standardised right , which may have been the reason for their refusal by the railway company.
