Foleshill Railway: miscfr308

Railway enthusiasts on a platform watch Peckett 0-4-ST, Works No 1722, 'Rocket', steam by on 8th April 1972. Built by Peckett and Son Ltd of Bristol in 1926, 'Rocket' was employed from the outset by Courtaulds at their Coventry site where it remained until the line closed. It eventually found itself as part of the private 'Shropshire Collection' near Shrewsbury. This collection was sold 'en mass' to the S & D Co Ltd, who had 'Rocket' restored to operating status by 2003. After only three trial steamings, 'Rocket' was brought to a new home, Telford Steam Railway, and put straight into passenger service. In 2014 'Rocket' underwent a ten year overhaul and is now owned by the railway following a bequest by a long term member who had known the locomotive in industrial use at Courtaulds.
