Three Spires Junction: lnwr_3spires2074
A Metro Cammell two-car DMU unit is seen passing Three
Spires Junction on the 1:45pm Nuneaton to Leamington Spa (Avenue) local service
on 16th April 1961. The sidings also formed the terminus of the branch to
Coventry Colliery which can be seen curving away to the left whilst Foleshill
Gas Works' Gasometers used for storing the coal gas can be seen looming above
the branch in the distance. The RCTS West Midlands branch's
website page records, 'the colliery branch remained out of
use for some years and was re-laid in 1994 by Network Rail and retained for the
use of the Pro Logis Distribution Park built on the Colliery site but saw no
traffic beyond two light engines until February 2007 when train loads of
Mineral Water commenced delivery to the Danone depot at DHL parcel site. The
LNWR signal box at Three Spires Jct. was burnt down by vandals and replaced by
a box to work the junction.'
