Adderley Park Station: lnwr_add2862
An Ordnance Survey map showing the late 1960s layout of
Adderley Park station after modification to trackwork. The signal cabin has now
been replaced by New Street Power Box. Whereas previously trains accessing the
loopline from the Coventry direction had to pass over the points leading in to
the sidings before reversing back on to the up line and then drawing forward
onto the loopline, the now can just be diverted straight on to the line.
According to Preston Hendry and Powell Hendry in their book LMS Stations
Volume One this change was possible because of the modern preference to
replace slips with single leads and facing points. This was because of the
advent of modern technology which ensured such facing points were locked
securely when being used by high speed trains.
