Ex-LNWR 0-8-0 'G1' class No 8962 is seen working hard at the head of a long mixed up goods train on the up relief line circa 1939. Built at Crewe works in December 1902 No 8962 remained in service until December 1948 when it was withdrawn from Springs Branch shed in Wigan to be scrapped shortly afterwards without bearing its allocated British Railways number.
