Ex-LNWR 4-6-0 'Claughton' class No 6004 'Princess Louise' passes Brinklow goods shed on an up express circa late 1920s. The locomotive has been rebuilt with the enlarged boiler but retaining Walschaerts valve gear and is about to go onto the Up Fast line of the four track section south of the station. The long siding on the left was a continuation of the down slow line which marked the end of the four track section running through to Rugby. The four track section was installed in 1906 which is presumably when the siding was built. Its length was such that it could provide refuge to a reasonable size of goods train. Built as LNWR No 42 by Crewe works in August 1920, it was allocated No 6004 by the LMS in November 1926 which it carried until April 1949 when it was withdrawn to be scrapped. It lost its nameplate prior to July 1935 when one of Stanier's 4-6-2 Princess Royal Class locomotives was so named. Had it remained in service longer it would have been renumbered by British Railways as No 46004.
