LMS Route: Rugby to Tamworth
Tamworth Station: lnwr_tam3136
Looking towards Nuneaton along the up platform as an
unidentified ex-LMS 4MT 2-6-0 locomotive passes alongside the down platform.
Careful examination of the canopy shows the gas pipe running along the edge of
the roof and then down the gable wall to connect to the gas lit lampposts
situated on the wall. The running in board (station name board) has the legend
'Tamworth' on one line with 'Low Level' in smaller lettering on the line
beneath. The two cans are thought to contain lamp oil and would have been used
to refill the oil lamps used on the signals. The reason why they are left in
such a prominent position is now lost in the mists of time.
