LMS Period Locomotives: lnwrbns_lms1947
An unidentified LMS 4-6-0 Class 5 locomotive is seen blowing
off steam at the East end of Platform 1 whilst at the head of a Birmingham to
Euston express service. Standing on the middle road is an unidentified LMS
2-6-2T locomotive designed by Henry Fowler. The Class 5, better known to
enthusiasts as a 'Black 5' to differentiate them from Stanier's Jubilee 5XP
class painted in LMS Crimson Lake, were built between 1934 and 1951 with a
total of 842 being built. The class survived to the last day of steam on
British Railways in August 1968 and a total of eighteen have been
preserved.
