LMS Period Locomotives: lnwrbns_lms1963

Ex-LNWR 5XP 4-6-0 Claughton class No 2204 'Sir Herbert Walker KCB' is seen at the East end of Platform 4 coupled to a rake of Midland coaching stock on an express service circa 1925. In all probability it has just arrived from Manchester on the Pines Express service to Bournemouth, a named passenger train that ran daily and which first commenced in 1910 and lasted until 1967. Built at Crewe works in August 1916 No 2204 was renumbered by the LMS in June 1926 as No 5926 which it carried until April 1933 when it was withdrawn to be notionally rebuilt as a Patriot class locomotive.
