LMS 5XP 4-6-0 Patriot class No 5521 'Rhyl' is seen standing at the West end of Platform 3 at the head of a down train to Wolverhampton

LMS 5XP 4-6-0 Patriot class No 5521 'Rhyl' is seen standing at the West end of Platform 3 at the head of a down train to Wolverhampton on 7th May 1938. Another of the Patriot class notionally to have been rebuilt from a LNWR 4-6-0 Claughton, No 5521 is seen carrying a 3B shed plate indicating it was a Bushbury shed locomotive. Originally rebuilt as LMS No 5933 in March 1933, No 5521 received the name 'Rhyl' in January 1938 and was one of the eighteen Patriot class locomotives to be rebuilt again - in October 1946 - with a Stanier 2A boiler. It was in this form that No 5521 remained in service until November 1963 when it was withdrawn from Spring Branch shed in Wigan to be scrapped by Crewe works.
