Ex-LNWR 2P 4-4-2T 'Precursor Tank' No 6797 is seen standing
at the West end of Platform 2 running bunker first, whilst at the head of a
local stopping train to Wolverhampton on 23rd April 1935. Built at Crewe works
in May 1906, No 6795 had at the time of the photograph only a little over a
year left in service before being withdrawn in May 1936 for scrapping by Crewe
works. This class was designed by George Whale to provide motive power on
suburban passenger work in the Birmingham, London and Manchester areas. The cab
roof has been fitted with ventilator and the rear of the bunker has had steps
added to assist the fireman gaining access to the bunker.
