View showing LNWR 2-4-2T No 1468 held by signals at the East end of Platform Three with the parcels office and yard behind circa 1905. Known officially as '910' class, they had 5ft 6in driving wheels and were introduced to replace the LNWR's 2-4-0 'Samson' class on local and branch line passenger services. The first of the class was built in September 1890 and were a very long-lived class, with No 1468 built in July 1897, remaining in service for some fifty plus years before withdrawal. The shed plates on LNWR locomotives were originally located on the rear of the cab roof, in this instance the white mark above the bunker.
