Close up of image 'lnwrbns_str402' showing LNWR 2-2-2 'Small Bloomer' No 1816 'Vandal' standing on one of the centre roads with its smokebox lamp turned sideways indicating that its in between duties. Built as No 380 by McConnell, Superintendent of the LNWR Southern division, at Wolverton in November 1861 it was renumbered as No 1816 in the duplicate list in December 1884 as seen above. In November 1886 it was again renumbered, this time as No 3038 and was scrapped five months later in March 1887. The two curved brackets on the side of the tender were used as part of the early form of emergency communication cord which ran through eyelets on the outside of the train at roof level. The coach to the right of the locomotive is equipped with such eyelets along the guttering but the cord is not fitted as its lying loose on the latter half of the roof.
