English Electric Type 4 Diesel-Electric D219 'Caronia' is
seen passing through the station on the diverted 4:15pm New Street to Euston
service on Sunday 4th September 1966. This was due to engineering work on the
New Street to Coventry section of the line, the train having been diverted via
the former Midland Railway line to Nuneaton before rejoining its journey at
Coventry. Built by English Electric Vulcan Foundry in July 1959, D219 was
reclassified under TOPs as Class 40019 and remained in service until December
1981 when it was withdrawn from D08 Liverpool Division to be scrapped by
Doncaster Plant.
