LMS Route: Coventry Loop Line

Looking through Folley Lane tunnels towards the tunnel under the Coventry to Rugby main line during construction of the loop line. The wagons, one of which is owned by the Griff Colliery in Nuneaton, are being used to transport ballast during the laying of the track. The use of another company's wagons was permissible under the 'common' ownership scheme which allowed pooled wagons to be used by any company participating in the scheme. This was an initiative to reduce the number of wagons being returned empty to their owners which not only generated no revenue but still incurred costs charged by railway companies.
