Close up of image 'lnwrcr41' showing Sidings No 7 to 11 and some of the eighteen coal stacking plots which included plots belonging to the Cooperative Society and Brentnall & Cleland Coal Merchants. The entrance to the site by road was off Coundon Road which lay in the background behind the wagons. The City of Coventry was well served by this yard and after the opening of the Coventry loop line in 1914 by the yards at Bell Green and Gosford Green. Most of the domestic households in the city were reliant on coal until the late 1960s when coal began to be replaced by gas piped in from the North Sea. Many industrial units were also coal fired and whilst some of the larger factories had their own sidings many of the others had to rely on coal from Coundon Road Coal Wharf.
