LMS Route: Nuneaton to Coventry

Ex-L & Y 0-4-0ST 'Pug' No 51204 is seen working the Dunlop sidings to the south of Foleshill station circa 1958. Built in December 1891 at Horwich works as L & Y No 1156 this was the fourth member of the '1153 class' to be built. The LMS renumbered it as No 11204 before British Railways added 40000 to LMS locomotive running numbers which resulted in this locomotive being given No 51204. Despite its rudimentary design including solid timber or 'dumb' buffers, it remained in service for over 71 years being withdrawn from Agecroft shed in September 1962 to be scrapped at Horwich works in November 1962.
