Map showing layout of Harborne station with a second platform allegedly provided in 1901 but removed in 1911

Map showing layout of Harborne station with a second platform allegedly provided in 1901 but removed in 1911. The coal merchant offices are seen located in the corner of the access road to the goods yard on the right whilst their coal was stacked in the yard seen on the left adjacent to the siding used for off-loading the coal. A fixed crane, which most likely was hand operated, was positioned in the 'v' between the coal merchants' siding and the single siding serving the goods shed. The map helps to show why the Harborne Railway took the decision to remove the second platform and replace it by adding extra sidings. The expansion of housing and industry in the area resulted in the possibility of increased revenues from goods traffic which was limited by the yard layout seen above. The extra sidings would increase the station's ability to handle more wagons.
