Close up of 'lnwrrm874' showing the sidings in the goods yard which contain a good mix of covered wagons and vans. The sidings on the left led to the LNWR goods shed opened in 1881 and alongside this were the LNWR cattle pens. The lone gas lamppost in the middle would only provide a little illumination during the long winter months. The 'white' round objects seen alongside each set of points are the hand levers operated by hand but seen from an oblique angle. Behind the wagons are some of the houses flanking Railway Terrace. Bernard Dodd writes, 'the terraced houses seen in image 'lnwrrm2421b' are behind the bracket signals. You can see the lines swing right into the large goods yard towards the goods shed and then past the docks and offices before reaching Wood Street. The semi detached houses, now gone, were also railway houses for the higher grade staff they are fronting on to Railway Terrace.'
