LNWR 2-8-0 Class E four-cylinder Compound No 1042 which had been converted from a Webb Class 0-8-0 Class B locomotive to the 2-8-0 wheel arrangement by Whale. The fireman can be seen standing on the tender putting the 'bag' into the tender circa 1920. Rebuilt from a Class B locomotive in October 1906, it was renumbered by the LMS as No 9606 in October 1927 which it carried until December 1928 when it was withdrawn from service.
