The siding running into the goods shed passed directly through thereby allowing staff to unload several wagons without having to shunt them out of the shed. Incoming traffic would have included domestic coal, delivered elsewhere in the yard, general merchandise, grain, animal feed, etc. Items which needed to be protected from inclement weather would be stored in the goods shed whilst more valuable and portable items would have been stored in the store room located at this end of the down platform building.
