Close up of image 'mrb480' showing Bournville shed's ash disposal facilities during a quiet period in September 1936. The road on the left gave direct access to the shed. The road to its right has an ash pit between the rails for dropping the fire and also gave direct access to the shed. Two ashbins can be seen next to it and the adjacent line is a siding for wagons to take away the ash and clinker. The home signal to the right of the wagons controlled an exit from the yard. The three gas lights in view would have helped to illuminate the yard at night.
